Ogie Mendoza has been involved in tango for more than a decade now.
He established the Manila Tango Club, the first duly incorporated tango club in
Asia in 1999 where he serves as founding president.
He worked closely with the Argentinean Embassy concerning the promotion of
Argenine tango in the Philippines.He organized 3 big tango events
TANGO ARGENTINO in 1996 VIVA EL TANGO in 1999 and TANGO EXPLOSION in 2000.
Pablo Inza and Gladys Fernandez were the main performers for TANGO ARGENTINO.
While RICARDO GALLO and again GLADYS FERNANDEZ starred in the last two shows.
He is a Foreign Service graduate of a prestigious university in Manila and has
a very good command of the English language.
He has travelled to Buenos Aires twice in 1999 and 2000 to further his skill,
knowledge and ability on Argentine tango.
He now teaches around Southeast Asia specifically, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur,
Manila, Bali, Jakarta and recently Dubai. Offers to teach in other key cities such as Ho Chi Minh,Shanghai and Bangkok are in the offing.

LA Dance Connection Co-Founder and Artistic Director Lionel Araya is an accomplished dancer, choreographer and teacher with more than 15 years of experience in Hip Hop/Funk, Street Jazz, Lyrical Jazz and Salsa.

In the USA he was proclaimed Grand Champion of the 1997 International Street Dance Competition, Los Angeles. Lionel’s choreography was voted among the best in the Annual West Coast Salsa Congress, Los Angeles (1999 - 2002) - the biggest and the most prestigious international salsa organizations in the world, with participants from more than 40 countries. He also performed and choreographed for CBS and Warner Bros, Hollywood (1991).

Lionel’s other international accomplishments include organizing dance conventions in his native country, Costa Rica, and conducting his popular dance workshops in Manila, Bali, Chennai, Maldives, Hong Kong as well as Singapore. In Singapore, he has showcased his works in the Asian Tourism Awards (1999), the Singapore Radio Hit Music Awards (2000), Mediacorp’s Ren Ci Charity show (2005) and Chingay (1998 and 2005).

In the past 7 years, he has trained young aspiring dancers through the Music and Drama Company (Singapore Armed Forces), Singapore American School, Singapore Management University, LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, other individual talent groups as well as at his own studio LA Dance Connection which was opened in 2004.

Albert Chung is from the USA and has been dancing since 1995. He has also competed, performed and taught at various dance events around the USA and other countries in Asia. His specialty is primarily in club-style partner dances which include West Coast Swing, Hustle, Salsa and Argentine Tango.

Jack Dunn

Jack Dunn or as many know him as "Mambo" Jack has spent his last eight years traveling the world spreading his love for Salsa. He currently resides in Beijing China, and is co-director along side his partner Zhen Zhen of the Phoenix Dance Company. He is also one of the owners of United Dance Productions, which is also based in Beijing China.

Jack was introduced to salsa in January of 1999 after attending a salsa class at Northern Arizona University. Jack quickly fell in love with the dance and the people that he met through it. For the next two years Jack studied and became the lead instructor for Northern Arizona University Salsa Club. Later in 2001 Jack decided to take his dancing to the next step and joined one of the top Salsa Dancing Companies on the West Coast of the United States Salvaje Dance Company. For the next three years Jack danced, taught, and performed for Salvaje Dance Company. In the summer of 2003 Jack moved to New York City to learn and study under the top Salsa/Mambo instructors in the World. For the next year and a half Jack studied intensely under the World famous instructor Eddie Torres who is also known as the "Mambo King". During this period in New York Jack developed as a dancer and instructor, but it is also were he developed his love for the music.

Since Jack has left New York City he has traveled the World teaching his love of Salsa, and specifically Mambo (New York Style Salsa). He has taught and performed in many congresses, festivals, and events around the world. In 2006 he was given an award and recognized at the World Famous West Cast Salsa Congress for his contribution to Latin Music and Dance. In 2006 Jack was honored as being one of the 12 judges at the World Salsa Championships. Jack continues to this day to spread his passion for the dance and music to thousands throughout the world.

The Singapore Salsa Congress Performers are honored to have been invited to perform for our Singapore President , Mr. S R Nathan.

Singapore is a republic with a parliamentary system of Government based on the Westminster Model. The Constitution of the Republic of Singapore provides for a President who is the Head of State. Prior to 1991, the President was appointed by Parliament and had a largely ceremonial role.

In January 1991, the Constitution was amended to allow for the election of a President by the citizens of Singapore. The elected President will hold office for a fixed term of six years. The creation of the elected presidency is a major constitutional and political change in Singapore's history.

Under the revision, the President is empowered to veto government budgets and appointments to public office. He can also examine the Government's exercise of its powers under the Internal Security Act and religious harmony laws, and in investigations into cases of corruption. The President must, however, consult the Council of Presidential Advisers before he takes a decision on some of these matters.

The first Presidential election was held on 28 August 1993. Mr Ong Teng Cheong was elected.

Mr S R Nathan became the second Elected President on 1 September 1999. On 17 August 2005, Mr Nathan was re-elected and he was sworn-in for his second term of office on 1 September 2005.

Born of a ballroom instructor father, dancing has always been in his blood. But the thought of doing any from of dance never came to him until much later stage in his life.

His salsa journey started sometime in 2002 and ended quite abruptly within just months due to unforeseen circumstances and he stopped pursuing it for around 2 years until by chance he came upon a sponsored salsa workshop organized by the local press. He joined the workshop and it led to a competition at the end of the 5 week course in which he joined and took home the 1st runner up position of the Harian Metro Goes Salsa Competition in 2004.

From there on, he continued his salsa lessons again this time from Malaysia’s pioneer salsa instructor Fasilito of Dance Spirit Studio. This was where he learnt the Cuban style salsa.

As an active member of Dance Spirit Studio, he participated in many of its student performances for public and also for charitable functions. This soon led him to participate in the Dance V Me Dancesport Competition 2005 in the Salsa Category. It was the first time in Malaysian history that salsa was included in the Dancesport and he took 1st Runner Up for Couples Category and 2nd Runner Up in the Group Category under the Salsa Spirit team.

But the highlight of his passion for salsa came when he became champion of the Conlay Salsa Dance Championship 2005 Open Category. It was the biggest salsa competition of the year and it was that very year that the participants of Dance Spirit Studio raised the competition standard of salsa to the next level. He is still the defending champion for the top spot in salsa competition in Malaysia for 2006.

Though having left Dance Spirit Studio, he is still actively pursuing more knowledge on salsa and is very much still active in the activities of the studio itself, assisting and mentoring junior students on the dance as well as in the aspects of choreography. Other than conducting classes, he is also involved in private performances and has been casted in local artist mtv as well.

He is currently attached as a salsa instructor with Joyclub Dance Academy.

Louisa Bo

If there is one talent that this young lady has it’s definitely a talent for dancing. Having started dancing at the tender age of just only 3, Louisa has never stopped in her quest to be the best at what she does.

A fast learner in all forms of dances, she has in her repertoire a myriad of different dance form. From young, she had done ballet, modern jazz, tap, hip hop, funky moves, ballroom and now salsa has became her latest passion.

Her dance passion brought her a few competition titles such as the 2nd runner-up for the 2005 Malaysian Hip Hop Team Open and also the Professional Hip Hop Team Showcase.

She was also the champion for the Nestle Omega Plus 2005 Dance Competition as well as the Dance V Me Dancesport 2005, excelling in the Hip Hop category. She also took home the championship title for the 2nd Malaysian Line Dance and Hip Hop Competition in 2006. Though strong in her hip hop moves, she has successfully steered her funky grooves for the sensuous styles of salsa and is currently going full gear in her new dance passion.

She has done many performances throughout her dance career, starting her stage performance at as young as 5 years old! Some of her latest performances were for Hugo Boss, Hewlett Packard, Milo Roadshows, Shangri-La Dance Performance and even as a dancer for David Tao’s concert.

She conducts children dance workshops and also teaches several dance forms at Joyclub Dance Academy as well as DanceSpace Studio.

Shantie

A Malaysian born but Australian bred whose dance floor presence never fails to attract the eyes of those around her. From a young age, Shantie had always possessed an inherent talent and passion for dance form and it wasn’t until lately that her passion for dancing bloomed with such gloriousness.

Having taken up salsa sometime around the end of 2003, she had already decided then to make salsa her main interest and for it to be her lifelong passion. After a year of training, she was presented with the opportunity to assist in the teaching and leading of classes.

Her fun and simple approach to learning salsa made her a top favorite among the students and many could relate to her ways of teaching. The environment is never dull and though she took salsa seriously she always ensured that everyone enjoyed their every moment in class.

To date, she has done various performances for private functions, weddings and even charitable events. One of the achievements was the participation and also in assisting in the choreography of the NASAM (National Association of Stroke Malaysia) whereby a total of 17 couples graced 4 various parts of the stage at the same time to the same choreographed number. She has also performed for various product launches and programs such as for local newspaper the Star and also for local artist Sean Ghazi’s mtv.

In 2005, she participated in the Dance V Me Dancesport Competition Salsa Group Category and her group emerged as the 2nd runner-up. This was the first time in Malaysian history that salsa was included in the Dancesport category.

To further enhance her salsa skills, she went on to learn salsa on2 (as she originated from salsa on1) and within a short moment she was already performing at the 1st Malaysian International Salsa Festival 2006 with the group Salsa U n Me. Their performance received a standing ovation and the loudest cheer from Thomas Guerrero of Santo Rico Dance Company with him exclaiming “Bravo! Bravo!”

She is currently a salsa instructor for Joyclub Dance Academy.

As a child he was already exposed to the art of dancing, involving mostly in traditional and cultural dances. As an adult, the genre changed from traditional to salsa!

As one of the senior student of Malaysia’s pioneer salsa instructor, it was natural that he would soon be involved in the ever exciting world of salsa. Trained and groomed by the best in Malaysia, he is one man that everyone enjoys watching on the dance floor. Just by watching him salsa, one can see and feel the rhythm flowing out from him.

He started his salsa from Dance Spirit Company under Malaysia’s pioneer salsa instructor Fasilito, and was soon being enrolled in the Salsa Spirit Project Team whose team members were specially trained in salsa by Fasilito himself. This Salsa Spirit Project Team moved its way to being the 1st runner-up of the Dance V Me Dancesport 2005 Salsa Team Category Competition.

It wasn’t long before he was offered to join in Malaysia’s premier latin dance group, Bailanismo. From there on and in a short span of time, he had participated in many performances around Malaysia. Some major highlights include performances for:-

DJ Bosco
Having been born and raised in New York City’s Spanish Harlem and being of Puerto Rican decent Dj Bosco cut his teeth on Salsa Music. As early as eight years old Dj Bosco began listening to the then popular and now world famous Symphony Sid radio show which featured all the Salsa greats.

At the age of twelve he sneaked into his first Salsa Sunday afternoon dance hall party at Colgate Gardens by convincing the legendary Barry Rogers (of Eddie Palmieri band fame) to allow him to carry his trombone into the dance hall. From then on he continued the Sunday afternoon event and danced and listened to live performances by such bands as Pacheco, Charlie and Eddie Palmieri,
Joe Cuba, Tito Rodriques, Puente, Machito and many,many more.

By the age of 16 Dj bosco was a regular at all of New York’s dance halls such as the Embassy Ballrooms, The Palladium, Basin Street East (which featured Richie Ray and Orchestra Broadway) as well as The Hunts Point Place, the club where the top musicians would go after hours (beginning at 3 a.m.) for impromptu jam sessions from which the Allegre All Stars emerged, and eventually evolved into the Fania All Stars.

One his fondest memory of that period was an event which featured the Tito Puente against Cal Tjader on stage in a Vibraphone shoots out, “Man, it was out of this world, these two giants on stage together battling it out. In a move that made the crowd go wild Tjader picked up the timbales sticks and started to riff, then Puente followed suit and the crowd went even crazier”.

Dj bosco believes much of his popularity is do to these early experiences, understanding, memories and friendships with many of the top musicians of that time, as well as his wide and rare collection of original CD’s.

Lourd Vijay

Lourd Vijay (founder –Director of LVDS) is a phenomenal dancer, an innovative choreographer and a very able instructor. An associate member of the Indian Association of Teachers of Western Dancing, Mumbai and Kolkata, Lourd has travelled to Israel, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Canada, UAE to train under renowned dance instructors and participate in international workshops and congresses. With this global experience, he brings the latest dance styles and concepts to his students in India.

Of his most recent accomplishments, Lourd Vijay counts being invited to conduct Salsa workshops at the World Salsa Congress, Italy and thrilling workshops conducted by him in Colombo and Bangkok, and at Salsa Festivals in Hong Kong. He also has fond memories of choreographing and working in many theatre productions and Bollywood Production including the Jackie Chan starrer ‘The Myth”.

Lourd Vijay is currently devoting his considerable energies towards the success of his newly launched Wear2dance label – a ready to wear collection that brings you clothes that are not just appropriate to dance in, but extremely comfortable as well.

It all started of as me firstly djing at an RNB/HIP-HOP venue called the ' The Gig ' . This clubbed closed down shortly after a few months just as I was getting used to my first club experience as a dj. I was on the hunt to find work again djing not knowing what change of direction lay ahead.

I approached a venue named ' Club Brazil ' which was right in the heart of my home town ' Brisbane '. The manager stated that the club is looking for a dj to play a variety of latin music which they had already in the clubs cd collection. I had to audition for this gig which was another dj I worked with at the previous club ' The Gig ' . Fortunatly I had advantage over ' Dj Booga ' as I could also MC earning me the residency as Club Brazils new dj.

This was my first experience hearing Latin Music besides the general artists which I'd grown up listenting to such as the Gypsy Kings, Santana, Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez . My first plan was to take the clubs cd collection home and study this new genre.

Club Brazil was also a restaurant and I was employed to work from WED - SAT finishing at 12 pm and and on Friday and Saturday nights would finish at 11pm letting another latino dj take over till 3am called Dj Memo. Memo was from El Salvador and he was playing alot more tropical sounds such as Cumbia, Merengue and ofcourse Salsaaaaa.....

I was amazed how people were dancing and the clientele that Memo had following to the real latin music that he had in his collection. It was like an energy I have never felt nor seen before. I go chatting to Memo that first night as he was also equally impressed with my mixing skills and we swapped numbers and addreses where we found out that we were next door neighbours. How IRONICALLY STRANGE...

I would go over and learn his music and also then started to experiment with mixing Salsa with RnB and Merengue with House. I especially grew a deeper interest in Salsa and its catchy firey rhtymns and harmonies. Being a percussionist and vocalist through high school I found Salsa to be so intricet yet simple in its form with me wanting to just keep hearing one montuno after another.

The rest was history you can say ....I started to buy records and read articles from every salsa artist/musician I could get my hands on. 10 years later and after djing in thousands of different events, clubs, locations worlwide I am still hunting and finding records and more info about my passion SALSA.

If using vinyl my choice of decks are still TECHNICS 1200 SL MKIII, When using CD players I use PIONEER CDJ series preferably 1000 series and also the old school Denon 2500 series. Mixer wise I love to use a Behringer or Stanton. I like using a KORG effex pad ...thats always fun aswell.
